Panerai Replica focused on two main areas of focus at Watches and Wonders 2021: The first was their new series of Luminor Chrono models. The second focus was on producing the most sustainable watches in the world from recycled materials. Let’s take a closer look.
Panerai Submersible eLAB ID
The most significant new release from Panerai is definitely the Submersible eLAB-ID. This unique version of the famous 44 mm Submersible is the most sustainable watch in the entire watch world to date. A total of 98.6% of their weight consists of predominantly recycled materials.
Its case, sandwich dial and bridges are made of EcoTitanium, a titanium alloy made from more than 80% completely recycled materials. This watch is also the first to have its dial and hands coated with 100% recycled Super-LumiNova material. This luminous material ensures better readability in poor lighting conditions. These are just two examples of the numerous recycled components – even the cover glass and the gold hands are included! Panerai is producing the watch in a limited edition of 30 pieces; the watch will go on sale in 2022 for the proud price of 60,000 euros. Now these 30 watches certainly won’t save the world. However, they impressively show what will be possible in the future. Hopefully over time the prices will also come down so we can really do something to make the world a better place.
Panerai Luminor Marina eSteel
A second Panerai innovation, the new Luminor Marina eSteel, is a little more affordable. This watch looks like a regular 44mm Luminor Marina, but is made from 58.4% recycled materials. Panerai makes the case and dial from eSteel, an alloy that contains recycled materials. In addition, the rubberized crown and a strap made from recycled PET make the model even more sustainable.
The Luminor Marina eSteel is powered by the proven Panerai P.9010 automatic caliber with a power reserve of 3 days. The watch is waterproof to a depth of 300 m and is available in three different colors with corresponding dials and straps: dark gray, green or blue. All three versions are available for EUR 8,500.
Panerai Luminor Chrono Collection
Aside from the focus on sustainability, the biggest news at Panerai for 2021 is undoubtedly the new Luminor Chronograph series. With this, the brand is expanding its range to include a series of chronographs that have what it takes to become a bestseller. Panerai also presented its new, self-developed automatic caliber P.9200 with a power reserve of 42 hours.
The new Luminor Chrono is available in three different versions, each in a 44 mm stainless steel case. Because of the signature Luminor crown guard, the pushers for the chronograph function are located on the left side of the case instead of the right. Although this is unusual for chronographs, it represents a nice visual counterweight to the large crown guard.
The Luminor Chrono is available with either a black, white or blue dial. The models with a black or white dial and leather strap have a list price of EUR 8,900. The blue dial version has a stainless steel bracelet and costs EUR 9,700. As mentioned, these watches have the potential to become highly desirable additions to Panerai’s already impressive product range.
