On the occasion of Art Basel in Miami, one of the most famous art and design fairs in the world, Audemars Piguet Replica has just unveiled a new reference…and it’s not a Royal Oak. Focus on the astonishing Starwheel and its wandering time display.
Code 11.59: a contemporary vision
The Code 11.59 collection has only existed for 3 years. Launched in 2019, it embodies Audemars Piguet’s desire not to be limited to its iconic Royal Oak designed by the late Gerald Genta. A subtle blend of tradition and innovation, it takes as its basis a classic watch to which the Le Brassus brand brings a contemporary vision, highlighted by a bold case architecture.
A unique box construction
Indeed, the Code 11.59 collection is recognizable by its atypical case constructed in two parts mixing two opposing shapes: the round and the octagon. Here, the octagonal heart of the case is in black ceramic and the envelope, whose openwork horns add character, is in white gold. The whole thing is topped by a curved anti-reflective treated sapphire crystal.
Wandering hour: a surprising and historic complication
Let’s go back a few years to the origins of wandering time. Created in the 17th century, at the request of Pope Alexander VII, this complication displays the time using three discs rotating on themselves and running along a minute scale arranged in an arc on the upper part of the dial. A mixture of technical challenge and continuous movement, it was revisited by Audemars Piguet in 1991. It is enhanced here by a blue aventurine dial supporting the three black opaline aluminum discs. The latter are powered by an automatic manufacture movement called caliber 4310, directly inspired by 4309 to which a module has been added. In addition to its unique display, it includes 224 components and offers a comfortable power reserve of 70 hours. But the show has a price: you will need to raise €57,100 to acquire this sumptuous Starwheel.
